4 year Journey complete!

After coming up short two consecutive years, the Achievement First Endeavor chargers, have won not only the region 3 championship, they've brought home the city championship! There have been very talented players whom have been apart of the Chargers program over the years, Messiah Clarke, Edwin Archer, Andre Cowan, Keith Curry, etc., But this years group led by Junior Ettien, Joshua McMillan, Jamari Simmons and Elijah Smith have done what no other group could at Endeavor.

We started of the season wining 3 straight games, including beating a HS, a team of adults, and a solid middle school in convinceing fashion. We came into the season incredibly cocky and believed the hype before we play an in league game. Kipp AMP came to play and we were out of character and we lost a close 2pt game. We felt we should have won that game, and we let it get away from us. From that moment forward, we didn't! We went on to play our style of basketball and never looked back. We didn't take anyone lightly or for granted and finished the regular 9-1.

Entering the playoffs we knew what we were playing for. We set the goal of not only region champs, but CITY CHAMPS as well. Our first playoff game against a tough Fahari team proved we were ready to play for the region with a 41-23 victory. Lead by Jamari SImmons and Junior Ettien, we were able to pull away in the second half. On to the regional finals against our rivals Brooklyn Excelsior. Over the last 4 years we have played each other in the finals annually! Last year, we lost to a heartbreaking defeat to Exclesior and never forgot it! With that lost in mind we came out on fire and never looked back, defeating them 55-37 for the Region 3 championship.

Finally, two game away from the goal, we had to play a very good team from the bronx, Bronx Excellence in the semi-final game for the city wide championship. We trailed at half,by 4 but remained optimistic. With 1:40 remaining, down 4, we get a quick score and a stop. with 40 secs. remaining Jamari Simmons hits a 3pointer to put us up one. We get a steal and a basket to go up 3 with 20 secs. left. We get another stop and the clock runs out on a hugely competitive game to move one game away from the goal.

In the final game against Kipp Infinity, things got a bit chippy with hard fouls and trash talking, we were composed enough to get past it and and pull out a 55-43 win to become CITY CHAMPS!!! To proud of these kids, they worked extremely hard and perserved. These kids were on the team as fifth graders and sat back and waited there turn while learning how to become a champion! No doubt this team will go down as one of the best middle school teams in NYC history! 16-1 Region 3 champs, City Wide Champs!!! At the top is US!!!!!!!
